Surviving That Bitch.....College by:Breezi B

Well another semester is on deck and finding a way to manage and maneuver classes, jobs, social networks, and finical aid can be enough to make any undergrad want to pull a Kanye and dropout. The stress of college can be unbearable at times and leaves one wondering the proverbial question of:  What do I do? Before you turn in your withdrawal slip to the registrar’s office and say you got something better than school there are many answers to that question and all it needs is taking a step back to truly evaluate your situation.

One of the biggest stressors for most students is MONEY! Most of us didn’t come equipped with good money management skills, so its no surprise that your money gauge stays on E. A way of solving this is buying what you NEED first and then spend sparingly on the extravagances (ie.. clothes, shoes, and for some of yall like me HAIR! believe it or not good hair can cost a pretty penny) as hard it may seam, its surprising how much you can save by learning how to say I don’t NEED this (put that fly ass shirt down and back away from the mall slowly). I know you may want to throw it in the bag when your refund check comes but try saving some of it or if you really bout your bread, invest it. So before you start singing la la la la wait til I get my refund check, prioritize your money first to avoid being on the fall ’10 line of Broke phi Broke.

Another key thing that could help decrease the level of stress is TIME MANAGEMENT. All the parties (shout out to TEAM T.O.K.Y.O), classes, extra curricular activities, and some how finding away to fit in sleep, can catch up to you. This may sound a little crazy but you’re at actually at school to…dare I say it… LEARN (crazy but true). Take time for yourself and get rest I promise you the club will be there next Thursday. I have a feeling this advice may go in one ear and out the other but these four or for some of us five years can go by smoothly if we really just focus on the goal of that degree. No, college isn’t easy and there are going to be moments when you’re just going to say fuck school (I’ve said it more times than I rather admit) but you came here for a purpose.

Lastly, environment is KEY. A change of scenery is always good, get out your dorm room to get your mind off things. Clarity will give you the fresh air you need to get your focus back. Stress is inevitable but dealing with it is nothing once you realize what works for you, weather it be writing self affirmations on your mirror or making it a trending topic on twitter it can be handled. It would be nice to get in our spaceship and blast off like Ye’ but unfortunately we don’t have it like that. Stress is nothing once you figure out how to manage it…you’re here for a reason and loosing isn’t an option.
