Another Great Piece From Miss Davis
Everytime I hear this statement… my fists bawl up, my eyes get all Uncle Ruckus-y, that little vein in the middle of my forehead starts hulking, and I am overcome with a rage that even Chuck Norris would fear. Wanna know why? Because second to any sentence with the word “nagging” in it, this statement is one of the most feared, and insulting things you can say to a woman.
WHAT IT REALLY MEANS…
What you’re really doing is grouping ALL women into one category, ascribing everyone the same beliefs, and the same treatment. It says we all walk, talk, and comb our hair the same way… Outright, it’s denigrating. It completely removes the guy from the situation… and shoulders black women with the weight of whatever random argument is being had at the moment.
Ima say this once: the real problem is not “YOU black women.” Black people can become stellar actors, musicians, politicians-ish, entertainers, writers, producers, but we have yet to stand as a unified race and realize what black love is because we don’t know how to communicate with one another. That simple. Real talk.
“This damn woman is nagging meeee…. ooooo.”
Heard it before right? It angers me, on a whole entirely different level when my beau says that i’m “nagging“ him. He can say I’m getting on his nerves, he can not talk to me period, and on a good day he might be able to curse at me and get away with it… but he bet not nevaaaaaaa say I’m nagging him. Why? Because that opens an entirely different can of worms. You done disrespected everything I stand for as a black woman… done cussed my momma, damn near called me out my name… all that. (Refer to Example A)

I will admit to the fact that some women do not know how to communicate how they really feel about things… but here’s the thing, when we’re “nagging” and complaining, what we’re really thinking is:
It’s about damn time black men stepped up to the plate. You misconstrue our supreme belief that our black brothers can be the most powerful men in the world if they want to as avid and repeated attempts to strip you of your masculinity… We believe in you, and we know that you cannot be the only ones responsible for uplifting the black community. We don’t want to be solely responsible for uplift… we need ya’ll.
Aside from that being quite possibly the realest sh*t I ever wrote, it’s the truth. I know that I believe so strongly in the strength and posterity of black men, and it is absolutely disheartening that summa ya’ll feel ok doing whatever, whenever, however. There’s no sense of accountability, and black women are slacking on holding black men to certain standards. But that’s another blog.
Black women have for so many years been the backbone of our race.
Yep I said it. In the civil rights movement, there were many black male leaders who have gone down in infamy in our history, but what few people know is that black women were the main ones organizing groups of people and making sure everything was in order. Historically, black women have played mother and father to children who enter this world with seemingly half the chance their parent’s had. And yeah there are a lot of black male professionals, but women consistently outnumber black men when it comes to attaining graduate and professional degrees (overall).
In this time when we are being judged simultaneously by the color of our skin, size of our wallets, and genetalia in our pants… we’re calling out to black men, albeit in backwards and often confusing ways, to get it together and flex on these old white folks… You laughin but I’m serious.
