[Article Spotlight] Racism & Soccer by:Will Croston

My Homie Will sent me  this article, its really good, a must read, so read it....follow him on twitter @XX_Alexander

The World Cup, every four years 32 teams consisting of players from all across the globe of all races, nationalities, religions and political backgrounds meet to determine whose nation is number one on the soccer field. Almost leaves you reminiscent of a futuristic utopian society where everyone is equal. That is until you look in the stands. For years now, soccer in European countries has been poisoned with racism. Groups of White Europeans throughout all of Europe (England, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy) use soccer games as an opportunity to degrade players of color.

Soccer stadiums in Europe are filled with the sounds of white fans making monkey noises every time a player of color touches the ball. Fans also pelting players with spit and bananas while in game. These actions have been customary at European soccer matches for years.
Some would think that a person with the talent, money, and fame of a professional soccer player would be exempt from being hailed with bananas and monkey chants. So what does this say, to me, it says in spite of talent, work ethic, and wealth we are still seen as niggers or monkeys in the case.
As a person of color no matter what you do you’ll never be fully accepted by white or European culture. In spite of this we still choose to lust over the pieces of “European Autocracy”. From the clothes (Gucci, Prada, Coach, Louis Vuitton, and RL Polo) we want to wear to the cars (Mercedes Benz, BMW, Ferrari, and Lamborghini) we want to drive and the history that we are thought in our schools its all small pieces of Eurocentric propaganda.

"It’s in a black persons soul to rock that gold

Speand ya whole life tryna get that ice

On a polar rugby it look so nice

How could somethin’ so wrong make me feel so right, right?”

We are subliminally thought that money and prestige, like bleach, will clean us from being black. That it will clean us from the negativity that comes from being on the over side the wealthy 2 and 3 percent. No matter what you do in life never forget who you are. Even in the era of a black president you’re still seen as a nigger an entity that is alien to white society.
